Soft tissue and Skin Surgery

Overview

Skin and soft tissue surgery plays a crucial role in enhancing the physical appearance of the skin, resolving skin infections, abnormal skin growths, traumatic skin injuries, and skin cancer. These surgical procedures not only address serious health issues but also significantly improve the cosmetic appearance of the skin, thereby enhancing the quality of life for our patients.

Types of Skin and Soft Tissue Surgeries:

Skin and soft tissue surgery involves several types of surgical procedures for the removal of lipomas, skin cancers, cysts, lesions and moles.

Surgery for Melanoma and Non-Melanoma Skin Cancers

Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer that occurs in the melanocytes, the pigment-secreting cells, and is at a higher risk of spreading to other regions of the body. Surgical resection of skin cancer is considered a widely performed and highly successful procedure.

Surgery for skin cancer, particularly Mohs surgery, involves the highly precise surgical resection of cancerous cells while preserving nearby, healthy tissue. This gold standard for skin cancer is a testament to the level of expertise and skill required in dermatologic surgery.

Sarcoma Surgery

Surgery for soft tissue sarcoma depends on the site and size of the sarcoma. The procedure aims to remove the entire tumour, as well as a healthy tissue margin, to ensure that no residual cancer cells are left. If there are cancer cells present along the edges of the tumour site, it’s said to have positive margins.

Skin Grafts

Skin grafting, a highly successful and restorative procedure, is a beacon of hope for patients with damaged skin. The surgical removal of healthy skin and its transfer to the recipient site, where there is missing or badly damaged skin, leads to a significant improvement in the patient's condition. After several days, the newly transplanted skin begins to form blood vessels and attach to the surrounding skin, marking the beginning of a new, healthier skin.
